The artists of inlayers are asking for your support by donating to our online fundraiser. Though the project is underway with the support from Alberta Foundation for the Arts, this funding only covers 25% of the budget. The rest is up to our own efforts. Your donations will go to help pay the 8 involved artists for their full time contributions, hard work, and dedication during the 6 weeks of this project as well as additional creation and production costs.

wow. the first webi. i have to say it is going in the exact direction envisioned….again i really feel like i’m stepping into the dancer/artist experience. (so kudos to our amazing documenteur kaelen ohm!!) anyone have any commentary or questions for a specific dancer??? artist??? do not be afraid folks….there is NO RIGHT NO WRONG question or comment….it is all in the name of a deeper exploration. we are reaching out to you.
Keep posting videos like this, and show glimpses of choreography though not full stuff. It’s very interesting to see the dancers emotional reactions to their work and to the piece itself and in general what is the work dynamics and your patterns of interaction. Good job for the 1st video, keep em coming! LOVE, Zohar
ZOHAR!!!!! love you back! thank you for the commentary!! i am VERY happy with this vid….totally opening up the process for all to see… <3 all my best z.

thanks for the comment…we are documenting and sharing every rehearsal throughout this process! please keep coming back and checking and please keep engaging! much thanks!
It fascinated me to see that the process started out with each dancer’s story, a part of an autobiography of sorts. Perhaps we are always dancing ourselves, our lives, but to dig deeper, we are touching the affective, our inner pulse. Because your group has started from a point inside each dancer, there should be a strong collective spirit established, that will be nurtured throughout the creative process. I look forward to each webisode.
it is my desire that we create a strong bond among the dancers…one of a family. i hope to extend our family to you all.
Thanks for watching everyone. It has been an amazing experience so far in the first 4 rehearsals… #2, #3 and #4 coming soon! I definitely appreciate your feedback. I think this specific show and it’s process is very special and is something that everyone should witness. If the whole dance community as well as the general public follows this story, I think everyone will have a greater appreciation and understanding for the contemporary dance process.

Hey all, it’s great to see the behind the scenes look at this creation. Certainly opens up what it takes to make things happen. Looking forward to the next episodes and to see how things unfold.
I said it before, and I’ll say it again… This is excellent! cinematography, dancing, effects, IDEA; love it!!!!!1!!
Just watched episode 2…. Beautiful work and can’t wait to see what this project becomes. I compliment your candidness in sharing the process and it is something very special to share and show, not just what you are making but how you are making it. I struggle with my own resistance to being truly visible in the work that I do… It is inspiring to see you being so transparent in showing the work every step of the way. Perhaps even more so than sharing the final product itself. For me, process is the richest more fertile bits of creation. Where the magic happens, when you feel the most inspired and open… Before ‘performing’ is a consideration and you are simply invested in creating this thing that you haven’t even completely conceived of yet. It has a life of it’s own and you are simply along for the ride. Totally amazing and inspiring…
what an amazing project! Congrats everyone! I am so proud of you all and look forward to watching the process….
I’m blown away by the whole concept, the video’s, the website….this is top notch shit! I like what Jenn said about connecting the east and west. People from the east know very little about all the amazing talent that lies in the west, and you guys are true examples of that. All I can say is keep going, stay committed and don’t hold back. I look forward to seeing more!
I think it’s such a great idea to give the chance to look what kind of work and effort is behind such a project, how beautiful to see the dancers in their personal way being involved each one different but aiming for the same thing- to give everything!!!
Get to watch as much people as possible, not only dancers…show it to grandmas, granddads, uncles , aunts, friends, parents everyone- that will be the right way to get normal people to understand and merit the artistic work…so we can build up a strong network…then it will be probably much more easy to ask for funding of upcoming projects and we as choreographers are able to give our dancers what they deserve!!!
keep on going taryn!!!
love
Awesome Job!!! I honestly don’t know much about Dance or Critiquing but from what I can see you guys did an Incredible Job! Congrats to you all!
mark….i want to say this…there IS no right nor wrong response…only your own! that’s EXACTLY what we want to hear and YOU are EXACTLY the person we want to engage with….let us have it! just be honest-take a deep breath and say what you felt watching the clip? what did you find interesting? why? do you have questions as to why a dancer did a certain movement or WHY it would mean something? the questions you have could very well be endless…..we want to hear them all!! even if it is this…..”i don’t get why a dancer did this….? can you tell me why?” THAT is the commentary we want! lets get this discussion GOIN!
This is so amazing – what a great idea for a project! I think it’s really special that you guys are sharing your creative process with all of us. I have been to so many shows and performances and I am always left asking “wow, how did they come up with that?!” and through inlayers I will finally get to see it! So thank you all.
Revisiting powerful, emotional memories is so difficult – I almost cried when I saw the honesty in your face, Pam. Through these videos we are really getting up close and personal with your personalities and struggles, but in a way, every artist puts themselves out there with each song, piece, poem etc. that they create. Would you guys say this is the hardest part of being an artist, letting it all hang out for everyone to see? Or do you just accept that this comes along with the job?
Thanks again,
JC
Hi Josephine!
Thanks for your response! Wanted to say this is how this piece is being made. It’s maybe a clue into how some dance is made but it’s more insight into how Taryn, specifically, works, or is working right now. This is my first time working with her, so I’m not sure how she approaches her work usually.
Artists do have to face up to themselves and the challenges they put on themselves though, it’s not every artists mission to concentrate on honesty, pain, or being organic, etc. Anyone can tell an honest lie? People have invented, and keep inventing, some wonderful lies!
Sorry, I’m riffing on this idea of honesty that keeps popping up here on the website…
I actually don’t know how to answer for other artists. I accept that being this open, sharing and using this information, is a part of working with Taryn.
Hey Josephine,
I agree with Simon that it is important to note all choreographers work in their own way. I would like to add that the one previous time I worked with Taryn she also used personal stories to explore a different subject. One interesting result of this method is that each dancer has a lot of room to explore in their own way and Taryn uses the strength of our individual interpretations to create her work. (would ya say so T.?) This is different than an approach that would, for example, require all the dancers to learn one specific type of movement and reproduce it in a very precise way.
Also, interesting question, Simon: “Anyone can tell an honest lie?”…. is this a question or a statement?
I think we can tell stories that haven’t actually happened to us. I think this can be done honestly and are often the most fun.
All that being said, Taryn is very precise in her direction and will get really specific with what she wants.
